By Dr Hans Wiersma There are some interesting words at the beginning of John’s Gospel—words that appear to drive a wedge between Moses and Jesus. The words go like this: “For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” (John NIV). These words are noteworthy because of the implied. The Book of the Law of the Lord is a sacred book of scripture used by the Strangites, a sect of the Latter Day Saint is alleged to be a translation by the Strangite prophet James Strang of the Plates of Laban, which originally acquired by Nephi, a leading character in the early portion of the Book of Mormon. Strang claimed to have translated them using the Urim and Author: Alleged to be part of the Law given to Moses .

“If thy meditation tends to fill thy note-book with notions, and good sayings, concerning God, and not thy heart with longing after him, and delight in him, for aught I know thy book is as much a Christian as thou ().” ― Richard Baxter, The Saints' Everlasting Rest. The Gospel, on the other hand, is the good news of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus for our sins (1 Cor. ). It is the message of what God has done for us, our deliverance from sin and the punishment of the Law.

Ernie’s book on The Law and the Gospel contains much of what we talked about in those days. There is much controversy and ignorance over this doctrine today. Errors in this doctrine have spawned dispensationalism, theonomy, the New Perspective on Paul, hypercovenantalism, legalism, antinomianism, shallow evangelism, shallower sanctification.

The Law is good, but we are not. The Law commands, but cannot give. It tells us what must be done, but helping us get it done is simply not in the Law’s job description.

It condemns us for violation, but cannot exercise clemency for violators. But once the Law’s legitimate claim against us is satisfied. The Law is Holy, Just, and Good. Rom The Law is a transcript of the character of God.

If you genuinely love the Lord Jesus Christ, you will love His Law and obey it. Likewise, if you genuinely love His Law and meditate upon it day and night, you will love the Lord Jesus Christ supremely. So what's the relationship between the Gospel (the. It becomes a hiding place, a shield, and the source of our hope.

The law also acts as a restraint upon us. Our nature in the fall is one of lawlessness. The power of conversion rescues us from bondage to sin, but it does not deliver us from all temptations. We need the restraint of law to keep our sinful impulses and fallen inclinations in check.

Comparing the Law and the Gospel. by Matt Slick 10/3/ The Law is the do’s and don’t’s of moral behavior. God gave the Law so that people would have a guide to live by and a standard by which they might recognize God’s purity and their sinfulness.

There are commandments in the Old Testament. They oversee moral, judicial, and religious behavior. The word “Gospel” comes from the Old English meaning “good news” or less commonly the Latin “blessed announcement” or “good tidings”.

The phrase is shorthand for Law of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And what a blessing we receive from the law of the gospel. Prophets both ancient and modern have said much on the topic. Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him to find out what he is doing?--John But whenever the term "the Law" is used in the Gospel of John, it always refers to the Old Testament Law known as the Jewish Torah.

John teaches that this Law of Moses points to Christ. It is a prophecy of Christ. Matthew Jesus preached both the law and the gospel, according to what His hearers needed.

The Pharisees and those who thought they were good enough needed law to wake them up to reality. Those who realized they were lost needed the gospel to take the heavy burden of the law off their guilty consciences.

This small book is an outstanding treatise on the different roles that both the Law and the Gospel play in our lives. There wasnt much that I didnt like about this book.

The parts that I didnt care for were due more to me wanting the authors to dive deeper into certain ideas; specifically the Law Gospel is a new book by Mockingbird Ministries/5.

There are two distinct laws brought to view. [See our article entitled, "Moses Law vs. The Ten Commandments"] One is the law of types and shadows, which reached to the time of Christ, and ceased when type met antitype in his death.

The other is the law of Jehovah, and is as abiding and changeless as his eternal throne. In Protestant Christianity, the relationship between Law and Gospel—God's Law and the Gospel of Jesus Christ—is a major topic in Lutheran and Reformed theology.

In these religious traditions, the distinction between the doctrines of Law, which demands obedience to God's ethical will, and Gospel, which promises the forgiveness of sins in light of the person and work of Jesus Christ.

Joshua Introduction. Joshua. jos Preface to the Book of Joshua Joshua, the son of Nun, of the tribe of Ephraim, was first called Oshea or Hoshea, הושע, Numwhich signifies saved, a savior, or salvation; but afterwards Moses, guided no doubt by a prophetic spirit, changed his name into יהוש Yehoshua or Joshua, which signifies he shall save, or the salvation of Jehovah.

The Law. Established by the Gospel, A Sermon, Preached Maat the Monthly Exercise of Our Lord himself was traduced by the ignorant and ill-natured men of that generation in which he lived, are the only persons that are capable of yielding spiritual obedience to the law, or of performing good works in a spiritual manner.

Men. The difference between law and gospel is being saved by grace alone and not by the law. The law condemns us but the loving grace of Jesus Christ through the cross is our only salvation to the Father.

As an Elder in our church, the book has helped me to serve the sick and shut-ins in our congregation. It is well worth the time to read it/5(37). At the heart of virtually every problem in the church, at the bottom of every strained relationship, at the center of every reason an inactive member stays home on Sunday or leaves the LCMS is the issue of the proper distinguishing between the Law and the Gospel.

Without this understanding. If you shall listen to the voice of the LORD your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if you turn to the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul. If you have no idea what I am talking about, a new book, Law and Gospel: A Theology for Sinners and Saints, by William McDavid, Ethan Richardson, and David Zahl will provide a great introduction to the distinction.

Briefly, God gave us both the law and the gospel /5(46). The Book of the Law of the Lord: Consisting of an Inspired Translation of Some of the Most Important Parts of the Law Given to Moses, and a Very Few Additional Commandments, with Notes and References James Jesse Strang.Well tonight we’re going to turn to a very, very important subject, the Law and the gospel – the Law and the gospel.

In the general picture out there of .It came about, when Moses finished writing the words of this law in a book until they were complete, that Moses commanded the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, saying, “Take this book of the law and place it beside the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may remain there as a witness against you.
